Dephasing and collapse in continuous measurement of a single system

چکیده
We show that long standing debates on the collapse and the role of the observer in quantum mechanics can be resolved experimentally via a nondistruc-tive continuous monitoring of a single quantum system. An example of such a system, coupled with the point-contact detector is presented. The detailed quantum mechanical analysis of the entire system (including the detector) shows that under certain conditions the measurement collapse would generate distinctive effects in the detector behavior, which can be experimentally investigated.

Measurements with a noninvasive detector and dephasing mechanism
We study dynamics of the measurement process in quantum dot systems, where a particular state out of coherent superposition is observed. The ballistic point-contact placed near one of the dots is taken as a noninvasive detector. We demonstrate that the measurement process is fully described by the Bloch-type equations applied to the whole system. These equations clearly reproduce the collapse o...

In this paper, the performance of two types of FACTS devices in order to enhance the power system static voltage stability has been investigated. These devices include Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC). The modeling of the Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) and aforesaid devices has been made up in steady state mode with disregarding of the generator ...

The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...
متن کاملContinuous weak measurement of quantum coherent oscillations
We consider the problem of continuous quantum measurement of coherent oscillations between two quantum states of an individual two-state system. It is shown that the interplay between the information acquisition and the backaction dephasing of the oscillations by the detector imposes a fundamental limit, equal to four, on the signal-to-noise ratio of the measurement. The limit is universal, e.g...
متن کاملLandau-Zener Transition in a Continuously Measured Single-Molecule Spin Transistor.
We monitor the Landau-Zener dynamics of a single-ion magnet inserted into a spin-transistor geometry. For increasing field-sweep rates, the spin reversal probability shows increasing deviations from that of a closed system. In the low-conductance limit, such deviations are shown to result from a dephasing process. In particular, the observed behaviors are successfully simulated by means of an a...
